Scenario: ‘The Monitor was greeted by Kelly, the Site Manager, and her male colleague, Peter. Despite Kelly taking the lead in discussions, the Monitor focused his attention on Peter and ignored Kelly throughout the entire site visit. The Monitor continuously ignored her contributions, repeatedly interrupted her and directed any questions he had towards Peter.’

What would you do differently in this situation?

Scenario: ‘The Monitor arrived on site and was greeted by Mohammed, an apprentice who is also the Assistant Site Manager. The Monitor asked Mohammed if they could be taken around the site by a more experienced member of the workforce.’

What would you do differently in this situation?

Scenario: ‘You receive an email from Gerald, a Site Manager you have met a number of times before. Gerald states that he is emailing you to complain about another Monitor’s behaviour during a recent site visit.’

How should you approach this situation?

Scenario: ‘You are on a site visit and you are being toured around the site by the Site Manager. During the site visit, the Site Manager’s attitude towards you comes across as rude and distasteful. You leave the site feeling deflated.’

What would you do in this situation?

Scenario: ‘You are on a site visit and you have a good relationship with the Site Manager after meeting her on previous visits. While you are walking around the site, you make a comment with no malicious intent. However, the Site Manager seems taken back by your remark.’

What would you do in this situation?

Scenario: ‘The Monitor was taken around the site by Bruce, the Assistant Site Manager, who showed the Monitor the site’s Best Practice Hub e-learning certificates. The Monitor told Bruce that they are not interested and would like to see some more exciting initiatives.’

Scenario: ‘The Monitor agrees to sit through a presentation by Rachel, the Site Manager, and Ben, the Assistant Site Manager. During the presentation, the Monitor did not ask any questions or take any notes, and waited until the end of the presentation to tell Rachel and Ben that he would prefer to look around the site and ask the Checklist questions on the way.’

Scenario: ‘The Monitor was greeted by Martin, the Site Manager, and they proceeded to sit in the site office to discuss the Checklist questions. Throughout the entire discussion, the Monitor lectured Martin and reminded him that he has more experience working in the construction industry.’

Why could this be considered as inappropriate behaviour?

Scenario: ‘A male Monitor and Tina, a member of the Scheme office, are on a site visit. It is the first time the two of you have met. The site visit finishes and you are saying goodbye to each other. As you say goodbye to Tina, you kiss her on the cheek.’

Scenario: ‘You are on a site visit and you are greeted by Kevin, the Site Manager, and Thomas, the Apprentice Site Manager. You ask if you could speak to the Site Manager alone.’

What would you do differently in this situation?

Scenario: ‘You are at a conference with members of the Scheme office and fellow Monitors. You hear another Monitor make an inappropriate remark about a group of women at the conference. Although other Monitors join in, you do not believe this behaviour is appropriate.’

What should you do in this situation?

Scenario: ‘The Monitor was toured around the site by Josef, the Site Manager. Throughout the site visit, the Monitor spoke to Josef unnecessarily slowly, despite Josef’s English being very good.’
