Fatigue Monitoring System

Considering the importance that the HSE places on fatigue and working excessive, along with our focus on Mental health, we decided to have Datascope create a way in which to record and clearly indicate the number of hours worked per operative per week. A report is then automatically created and sent to the Goodmans Fields management team to review on a weekly basis. The primary reason for focusing on this area is mental health. We have had a major push at Goodmans Fields to bring mental health to the forefront of everyday life in the workplace. This has taken place in conjunction with Site Management attending a two day mental health first aid training course.

How it Works

The report highlights, with a traffic light system, operatives who have worked more than 48 hours but less than 55 hours in the week (amber) and operatives who have worked more than 55 hours in the week (red). Green indicates operatives that have worked less than 48 hours in the week. These weekly work hour guidelines have been obtained from the HSE website.

When the report is generated the management team will then discuss the work hours with the operative’s line managers confidentially to make them aware of the additional hours and the potential effects this may have on their operative. Though we cannot force anyone to work less hours per week if they are self-employed, awareness is raised through this procedure and aids in mental and physical health in the workforce.
